Stranded on a deserted beach!

Today we took our dinghy to a beautiful beach on a nearby island and went snorkelling while Kata swam and tried her paw at fishing. After a couple of hours of fun in the water, watching turtles swim past and following the fishies around, we decided it was time to head back to the boat for some lunch. Kata happily jumped into the dinghy and we went to start up the torqeedo electric motor and an error code started flashing on the screen! Being on a remote island we had no signal to be able to look up what the error code meant so we were stranded. We tried a few different things and then dragged the dinghy over to a tree so that we could try troubleshooting more in the shade. We also tried to radio for help but nobody was listening. Lucky for us a dinghy appeared around the corner and we both started waving frantically. At first it seemed like they hadn’t seen us and were going to go straight past and then at the last minute they saw us and turned towards us. These kind strangers then loaded all three of us up into their dinghy and towed our dinghy behind their back to our boat. Another adventure…as my Dad would say “it’s all part of the rich tapestry of life!”

Omg! Maybe need oars! Wow could’ve been stranded!

    1. We do have oars on board the dinghy and we may have ended up resorting to that if we hadn’t been rescued. It was a long way though, in direct sunlight and against fairly strong winds (for dinghying) and against the waves once we rounded the corner. We were definitely lucky! We used that motor all up the east coast and in the Chesapeake with no issues and kept telling people how much we loved it! Now we are finding out this is a common issue with this model and we may not be able to easily fix it!

Talk to jules about motor issues on his dinghy!

    1. Haha oh dear, will do. We have switched to our regular outboard now but this seems to be the trip of dinghy issues!
