Charleston, you were great but you are getting too cold. We had a lovely Thanksgiving here with Kevin’s parents and now my parents have joined us so it’s time to head south and warm up!

Got into Charleston last night and dropped anchor

Got into Charleston last night and dropped anchor right beside the U.S.S Yorktown. It was quite the sight to wake up to this morning! We had an eventful start to our trip as a silly mistake lead to engine troubles while trying to navigate out of a twisty, turny, busy channel. Luckily we had great winds and were racing along at over 8 kts on wind power only. All was fixed by the time the winds died and the second day was heavy on the motor sailing. Our friend, @alex_santa_eulalia joined us and did a stellar job as crew. Overall a great time was had by all. Special thanks to @mcbrayermolly for the tasty egg bites she made to keep us going underway!

Cape Hatteras take 2. Another moonless night, which makes for some brilliant stargazing (sorry, no night pics). LOTS of company around the cape this time. During the last leg of our trip we had to turn and had beam seas with square waves for a while. During this time we heard over VHF that a boat that had been near us for a good part of the journey sunk. Not sure what happened. Coast guard did follow up to say that all on board sunken vessel were accounted for and not in distress though! Thank goodness.

Goodbye Chesapeake! After much deliberation we decided to leave this morning. Unfortunately we left a little later than we would’ve liked because we were blocked in by another boat at the Marina, which means it will be fairly lumpy in the last leg of our passage. Might pour a bit of rum over the side to appease Neptune.
